DISCLOSE Act Fails Senate Cloture Vote 57-41 -- Filibuster Blocks Campaign Finance Disclosure (2010-07-27)
The Senate fell short of the 60 votes needed to overcome a Republican filibuster on the companion bill S. 3628. Despite receiving 57 votes in favor, the DISCLOSE Act could not advance past the cloture threshold, effectively killing the first legislative attempt to impose disclosure requirements on political spending in the wake of Citizens United v. FEC. A second attempt on September 23 also failed 59-39.
