About theunderKurrent

We live in a time when the machinery of misinformation operates at industrial scale — when propaganda is algorithmically amplified, when truth is manufactured for political convenience, and when the historical record is actively being rewritten. theunderKurrent exists to push back.

Our Mission

theunderKurrent is an independent, community-driven platform dedicated to preserving an accurate, source-backed record of events that shape our political and social landscape. We believe that accountability begins with documentation — and that the best defense against organized disinformation is an indelible, verifiable archive of what actually happened.

Every event in our timeline is sourced from primary documents: court filings, congressional testimony, video transcripts, official records. Every claim is cross-referenced. Every source is preserved. We don't deal in opinion or speculation — we deal in documented fact.

What We Do

  • Kronology Timeline — A multi-dimensional timeline of events spanning 2015 to the present, organized by entity, topic, and analytical technique. Each event carries primary sources and is connected to related events through an auto-computed relationship graph.
  • Kurated Feed — Community-driven content curation that rewards quality over engagement. Our algorithm surfaces well-sourced, substantive contributions rather than outrage-bait.
  • Corpus Analysis — Deep, narrative analysis documents that trace thematic arcs across hundreds of events — revealing patterns that individual news stories obscure.
  • Source Preservation — Video transcripts, Wayback Machine captures, court documents, and primary records are archived alongside events, ensuring the evidence survives even when original sources disappear.

Why It Matters

The strategy Steve Bannon called "flooding the zone with shit" works by overwhelming the absorptive capacity of institutions, media, and the public. When there are 30+ false claims per day, individual fact-checking becomes irrelevant. When contradictions are features rather than bugs, no single truth can be pinned down.

theunderKurrent inverts this dynamic. Instead of volume over precision, we pursue precision over volume. You can't flood-the-zone a corpus that requires verification. You can't astroturf a timeline that cites court documents and transcripts. The weakness of the propaganda model is that it depends on noise — and an accurate, well-sourced archive is the antidote to noise.

Get Involved

theunderKurrent is built by its community. Anyone can contribute:

  • Kurators earn trust through quality contributions and can help curate content
  • Event reporters can submit corrections to existing events or propose new ones for the timeline
  • Source contributors can attach primary sources to events that need better documentation
  • Everyone can vote, comment, and help surface the most important content

Join us in building something that matters. The record is worth preserving.
