Schedule F Executive Order Reinstated — 50,000 Career Civil Servants Become At-Will Employees (2025-01-20)
Trump signs an executive order reinstating and expanding Schedule F, reclassifying approximately 50,000 federal career civil servants as at-will employees who can be fired without cause. The order targets independent expertise across agencies: scientists at NOAA and EPA, economists at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health experts at CDC and NIH, and career prosecutors at DOJ. Thousands are fired or resign in the following months. The Heritage Foundation calls it the 'most important administrative reform since 1883.'
