ICE Officer Shoots Jose Garcia-Sorto During Phoenix Traffic Stop
An ICE officer fired two shots at Jose Garcia-Sorto, a Honduran construction worker, during a traffic stop on I-17 near Dove Valley Road in north Phoenix at approximately 4:00 AM. Garcia-Sorto initially stopped but allegedly began pulling away as officers approached. The officer, fearing for his life, discharged his weapon twice striking the vehicle. Garcia-Sorto was hospitalized in stable condition with an unidentified wound. His wife Anahi learned of the shooting only after her brother saw it on the news. The FBI opened an investigation. DHS declined to confirm whether Garcia-Sorto was hit by a bullet or whether body cameras were activated. Garcia-Sorto was undocumented but his family said he was a construction worker heading to his job.
