Ohio Redistricting Commission Approves New 12-3 GOP Congressional Map -- Mid-Decade Redraw Follows Trump Pressure Campaign
The Ohio Redistricting Commission unanimously approved a new congressional map increasing GOP advantage from 10-5 to 12-3. The deal was brokered behind closed doors between Republican and Democratic commission members -- Democrats agreed to avoid a worse 13-2 map. The map paired Cincinnati's suburbs with rural counties, split Mansfield into two districts, and made Toledo Rep. Marcy Kaptur and Cincinnati Rep. Greg Landsman more vulnerable. Gov. Mike DeWine called the 12-3 breakdown "darn good numbers." The redraw was part of a national mid-decade gerrymandering wave triggered by Trump's directive to Texas.
