The Framework of UnderKurrent

Published June 21, 2026 Updated June 21, 2026

UnderKurrent was built in response to a broken information ecosystem -- one where engagement, attention, and behavior shaping have replaced truth, substance, and community.

The Problem
Mainstream platforms optimize for a single metric: time-on-site. This creates perverse incentives for outrage, division, misinformation, and isolation. Algorithms silo us into echo chambers. Bots and coordinated campaigns manipulate discourse. The "24/7 news cycle" floods the zone with endless minutia, making it impossible to connect the dots or hold power to account.

We live in a world where "inferred consent" has replaced genuine agreement -- where subterfuge, gaslighting, and manipulation are normalized. The public has been left voiceless, confused, isolated, and unsure how to find their tribe and stand together.

Our Mission
UnderKurrent exists to restore truth, dignity, humanity, and accountability to public discourse. We believe:

- Truth is not subjective. Facts matter, and holding power accountable is essential.
- Community is innate to the human experience. We are not designed for isolation, constant survival mode, or division.
- Substance must replace performance. We value quality over virality, depth over outrage.
- Transparency is non-negotiable. Our algorithm, our funding, and our decisions are open books.
- Consent cannot be inferred. We reject the assumption that silence equals agreement.

How We Do It
- People-powered curation: Our community decides what matters through voting, endorsements, and contributions
- Trust-based algorithm: K-Score, Kurrency, and multi-factor ranking reward truthfulness over sensationalism
- Independent funding: Donation-supported, not advertiser-driven. We answer to our community, not corporations
- Kronology: A visual timeline connecting events across time and categories, restoring context to the news cycle
- Open discourse: Comments, discussion threads, and community moderation designed to elevate constructive dialogue

Algorithmic Neutrality & Equal Application
The K-Score, visibility scoring, and all ranking algorithms on UnderKurrent are standardized, mathematically defined, and applied uniformly to all users, narratives, entities, and sources. The formula is identical for every account: karma ratio (40%), kontribution score (20%), endorsements (15%), account age (15%), and kurrency bonus (10%), with penalties for flagged and moderator-removed content. No factor considers political affiliation, ideology, or personal alignment.

The parameters, weights, and criteria are publicly documented in our How the Feed Algorithm Works article. This transparency ensures the platform serves as an objective tool for elucidation -- not a mechanism for promoting any particular agenda.

We believe that truth is not subjective. The same standards of evidence, integrity tracking, and community accountability apply equally across the spectrum of public discourse. This is not neutrality for its own sake -- it is the foundation of credibility and trust.

The Vision
A world where "we the People" can come together -- across geography, background, and ideology -- to share truth, hold power accountable, and build a society based on justice, kindness, dignity, and mutual respect.

We were never designed to live in a state of constant survival, inundation, and division. UnderKurrent is a step toward remembering that -- together.
